The top-ranking officers from the Navy and Marine Corps, Adm. Mike Gilday, 32nd Chief of Naval Operations and Gen. David H. Berger, the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps, visited Fort Meade, Maryland, February 18, 2020. The two heads of the naval services toured Lasswell Hall and participated in the grand opening ceremony for the Cyber Foundry.
Lasswell Hall is the headquarters building for Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command and Joint Task Force Ares, it provides an operating environment, infrastructure and oversight for cyberspace operations forces across the joint force. It hosts cyber mission teams who operate daily on global cyberspace missions.
The Navy and Marine Corps are partnering personnel and resources to collaborate further and innovate ways to tackle cyberspace challenges, said Capt. Ann E. Casey, commanding officer of Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group (NCWDG). “The Navy’s Cyber Foundry is the Navy’s cyber weapon building shipyard,” said Casey.
The senior leaders discussed cyberspace operations like those conducted out of Lasswell Hall. “Tactical actions forward are dependent on a place like Lasswell and the operations planned and executed here,” said Maj. Gen. Mathew G. Glavy, commander of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command and Joint Task Force Ares.
